Why Volunteer?

We believe that looking for a job is hard. It's easy to get frustrated and look at all of the negative things around us. Therefor, we think that giving of your time may be a way to get out of your rut and put the focus on someone who may be less fortunate then you. It will give you the opportunity to do something good with your time and fill your bucket.

We also believe that volunteering looks great on a resume!

Did you know that volunteering has even more advantages than making you feel good? We have heard several stories where people have actually been hired by the non-profit because they were albe to show their expertise, work ethic and were able to make a personal connection with them.

Many companies also volunteer so you could be standing right next to your future employer and not even know it! Just start chatting with the people around you and who knows where it could lead.

Volunteering is an excellent way to gain experience at something you would like to work in! Don't have any management experience? Contact a non-profit to see if they have any volunteer positions available to manage a group of some kind. Then you can add that to your resume.

Feed My Starving Children

Feed My Starving Children is our favorite organization to volunteer at. You don't need to bring anything, just yourself and hopefully a friend! Please consider giving a few hours of your time to pack food, it's amazing what they are able to do with so little!

Remember, you do need to register in order to pack! It's easy, just go to www.FMSC.org.

United Way

Another great non-profit is the United Way. Please visit their website  at www.unitedwaytwincities.org/caringconnection. It is an online database of volunteer activities. There you can search by zip code, interest area and other parameters for volunteer activities that meets your needs.
